Lenovo Ideapad 3: Budget Gaming Laptop That Packs A Punch

With a decent selection of ports, a responsive Windows Precision trackpad, and a full-size backlit keyboard with satisfying key travel, this budget-friendly laptop can run many modern games at playable frame rates. For a budget gaming laptop, the IdeaPad Gaming 3’s design isn’t too different from what you might expect. It’s made out of mostly plastic but does look presentable enough due to its lower profile – all around an excellent value for the money!

What I dislike about this model is that it lacks good graphics. On the highest configuration at a price of $989, you are provided with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB Graphics card. One would expect such an expensive laptop to not lack such an essential quality for gamers.

As long as I adjust the graphics settings appropriately, it should be able to run most of the games I want to play right now. Among these are Persona 4 Golden, Risk of Rain 2, Control, and Hunt: Showdown.

If you’re looking for a laptop that doesn’t cost an arm and leg, but can still run most of your favorite games without any problems – then this laptop will deliver what you need. But every once in a while when my computer slows down while playing a game, I take the opportunity to really appreciate Lenovo’s oddball decisions behind using such powerful hardware with such a low-tier graphics card.

Lenovo included Vantage software is perfect for getting the most out of this laptop. The program is where you can toggle automatic switching to performance mode when a game starts up (this setting is off by default, so gaming performance will be subpar without it switched on) and also Rapid Charge, which allows the battery to reach 80% in just an hour. Along with these options, this program has updates for BIOS and hardware that Windows Update won’t touch. If only the app wasn’t so easy to confuse as bloatware-something else trying its hardest to get me signed up with McAfee or delete it altogether from my hard drive.

Equipped with a 15.6-inch FHD IPS display, no matter what activity you’re doing – whether typing up an email or scrolling through social media feeds – the experience will be unique to you in every way imaginable. For those who find themselves looking for brightness rather than simply content, however, this Lenovo laptop offers an option for both; currently topping out at 250 nits on average, which can easily be adjusted from settings within Windows 10. If privacy is your main concern, however, there’s always that ever-so-convenient webcam cover for those times when things need to stay between friends.

When using this laptop on battery power, it lasted only three hours before shutting down due to running out of juice. However, when hooked up to a wall outlet using the provided 135W charger, the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1 ran smoothly and without overheating or noise. And if you want some extra graphics boost while gaming or doing other heavy tasks? Just tap FN+Q to switch over to one of the two performance profiles (the laptop will turn back off automatically).
