After making over Rs. 18 crores on Friday and over 33 crores on Saturday, director Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai saw another spike in earnings today (Sunday). Early estimates show that the movie made about 35 – 40% more than it did during its second day. With Sunday earnings adding up to around 4-5 crores, the film now stands at a grand total of 10.5 crore rupees from only 3 days! The numbers make it the largest three day opening for any Amitabh Bachchan movie ever since the pandemic occurred; with big credit being given to Sooraj Barjatya himself for his strong brand name which helped keep people interested all throughout these years even though he never directed again after Hum Saath Saath Hai.
At this moment in time, Uunchai (whose name means adventure in Thai) is only being played on under 500 screens across the country. With an increase of screenings, come an increase in profits for both exhibitors and distributors alike. It seems that everyone who saw it over the weekend enjoyed it – even if they had to wait all day until its screening time! – because we’re projecting that revenue from Thursday onwards could have been 25% higher. And looking at how well-received it was among cinema-goers, you’d think people would be lining up around the block for tickets every single day! But I’m sure this trend won’t last forever; especially when you consider how only those who are willing to line up early get a chance to watch Uunchai right now…but this might change soon.
