After collecting Rs. 1.81 crores on the opening day, Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai has seen a spike in collections on Saturday. The slice-of-life drama spiked by 100% from its first day to show the largest second-day growth for a Bollywood film since the pandemic. Reports estimate that it may have earned between Rs. 3.55 crore and 3.70 crore rupees during the weekend thus far–a significant amount considering this is just one week after release date–proving it was an incredibly successful movie yet again.
The total collection of Uunchai’s first two days stands at RS. 5.5 crores, and it is now looking to make a mark in the double digits when it comes to weekends. Saturday marks a growing trend after its profits were up significantly from the opening day; illustrating that audiences are beginning to catch wind of this film. The makers went ahead with their limited release strategy which seems to have only fueled public interest rather than dampening it – since we can expect another 100+ showings tomorrow (Sunday) as well.
The film is doing exceptionally well, even in places like Mumbai where all tickets were sold out by evening. Gujarat too seems to be warming up to the idea of this movie and a large spike in business can be expected there on Sunday. It only released in smaller cities but I am certain that tomorrow will bring positive results across the board. There are many older people who support this movie so far; which may or may not affect other audiences as much, depending on how it does financially from here on out. If it manages to have an impressive Monday performance, then maybe – just maybe – we might get a sleeper hit for the Bollywood industry this year!
