Anime is a Japanese creation that sometimes incorporates characters from other countries (like Mexican anime characters) who can add a lot of diversity to the plot. Those characters sometimes become highly popular because of their appearance or how they can bring something new and original to the plot.
One example would be Dragon Ball where we follow Goku, a character with superhuman strength – all the while he fights the likes of dinosaurs and an evil monkey king. In this post, I will talk about some my favourite Hispanic or Latino animated TV show protagonists, so let’s begin.
1. Nadie – El Cazador de la Bruja
Her name translating to nobody in Spanish, she is the protagonist of a popular anime called El Cazador de la Bruja. A bounty hunter skilled with both guns and magic, this character has proven time and time again how strong-willed she is. Despite being cheerful most of the time, nobody’s quite as quick to anger when they’re pushed too far than her – which is something you really don’t want to do if you know what’s best for you.
2. Sado Yasutora – Bleach
His nickname is Chad. Sado is a Mexican teenager who is stronger than you can imagine. He has extraordinary strength and speed, making him adept at fighting powerful opponents – or avoiding them altogether. One day he discovered martial arts, thanks to his grandparents’ encouragement. After practicing it for six months, he learned how to take down bad guys without kicking the crap out of them – just enough so they would go home with bruises instead of permanent injuries.
3. Pepe Iglesias – Megalo Box
This character spoke only Spanish in this anime. Pepe Iglesias used Spanish to insult and taunt his opponents while fighting. He also used sugar skulls that are made in Mexico for clothing since he was representing himself as being from Mexico. Just like the other Mexican athletes, Iglesias knew how to make people excited about what he was doing on stage when he performed for them.
4. Winters Socalo – D.Gray-Man
Winter Esquivel is a Mexican death row prisoner with Aztec roots who have an aggressive temperament and looks. He’s the Exorcist General of the Black Order, Aleister Crowley III’s master, and he leads the Socalo unit. Winter can be very intense and violence personified, but he also displays this weird sadistic love for both fighting and killing.
5. Chico Rodríguez – Mobile Fighter G Gundam
This country’s representative to Neo Mexico, or New Mexico, is a man named Chico. He became the champion because he was saving up money for his sister Gina so she can return home and live out her days in peace.
But when Gina found out about her brother having been chosen to represent Neo Mexicana instead of her – she decided it would be too hard for her brother to try and fulfill both roles at once – so she withdrew from the competition which made Chico eligible again to take back the title of Champion.
6. Musca Dio – Saint Seiya
No, we’re not discussing Dio Brando from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. This is instead Dio from Saint Seiya. One of the many saint warriors who fights for peace on Earth, it is his duty to wear a yellow cloth that represents the constellation known as ‘Musca,’ which translates to ‘The Fly.’
Though he may seem underwhelming in comparison to other constellations such as Cancer or Pisces, he has an important job within the army nonetheless – and furthermore, he wasn’t even created by ancient Greek astronomers!
7. Peyote Diaz AKA Ramiro – Shaman King
He is a fan favorite from Shaman King because of his looks. Peyote is a Mexican shaman and one of the most devoted followers to Hao. Initially, Peyote was an emotionless and sadistic shaman who was willing to do anything for Hao. But towards the end, he had doubts about Hao’s actions and became suicidal.
8. Hawlucha – Pokemon
Pokemon don’t always have a nationality, but Hawlucha appears to be representing Mexico in some ways. He is based on a fusion of a falcon and Luchador wrestler. The color of his feathers are designed after the colors of the Mexican flag; while his features resemble masks worn by wrestlers throughout Mexico. Besides this, he also falls under the category of ‘fighter’ types – using moves commonly seen during wrestling matches such as punching and kicking – which makes him perfect for combat-oriented players looking for Pokemon that fit their playstyle!
9. Ricardo Espadas – Captain Tsubasa
From what people say, there are actually quite a few players from Captain Tsubasa who were based off of actual soccer players. For example, this Mexican goalkeeper was heavily influenced by Jorge Campos – one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time. It seems like Espadas had been named after him, a nice gesture for such an accomplished player.
10. Lala Gonzalez – School Rumble
Not much is known about LaLa. She, transferred here from Mexico a year ago and immediately claimed the top spot at her high school’s wrestling team – where she had been only one of two girls before. At first glance she looks like an average girl with long black hair, brown eyes and dark skin – but what really sets this girl apart are her skill in Lucha Libre art and training under her father who wanted to make his daughter the best wrestler he could.
11. Marcos Eringrad Garcia – Terraformars
Marcos E. Garcia is a Mexican immigrant who, along with his two best friends, Sheila and Alex, escaped from his country and joined the Annex Project to obtain American citizenship and have a better life with them. Marcos may look like a troublemaker who is always in Dragon Ball Z mode but this isn’t true at all- he actually cares about family more than anything else.
12. Ricardo Martinez – Hajime No Ippo
Ricardo was an acclaimed Mexican Featherweight boxer. His boxing technique had been called immeasurable and otherworldly by many journalists, who said it was one of the hardest opponents Ippo had ever faced. Ricardo beat Date both times they boxed against each other – once at least partly because he used a foreign object. Ricardo’s hands-eye coordination is incomparable to anyone else ippo has fought before; because Ricardo never forgot where his opponent was during fights.
13. Leo de la Iglesia – Yuri!!! On Ice
This anime trolled all of the Otakus in the world. When it was first broadcasted, Yuri on Ice managed to break the internet with all its popularity and fandom. Not one of the most important characters in this series, Leo de la Iglesia is a character who hails from Mexico. He is an energetic figure-skater who has won gold at Skate America and has many fans around the globe.
14. Quetzalcoatl – Fate/Grand Order
Quetzalcoatl is the alteration of the Aztec goddess Quetzalcoatle named after her; and so she qualifies for this list of Latin anime characters. A kind goddess at heart, Quetzalcoatl was devoted to her people, giving them many gifts. Even though she is loving and loyal, Quetzalcoatl has an enigmatic personality that can turn fiercer than a storm when it comes to fighting foes.
15. Alex Kandley Stewart – Terraformars
Despite his European sounding name, Alex is actually Mexican. Alex is a young man who fled his home country and joined the Annex Project in order to gain citizenship as an American, so that he could play baseball. He has always been friendly, kind and playful – but now it seems these traits have been amplified after escaping from what used to feel like complete imprisonment back home.
16. Luxandra Frail – Divergence Eve
This is another Mexican character without a proper Hispanic name. Luxandra has always been interested in astronomy but was unfortunately pulled into a dangerous situation and injured herself when she was young. In order to protect others from suffering the same fate, she joined the military where her skills were put to good use.
She may seem too kind at times but it only shows how much of a caring person she really is because she offers support to those around her even when they’re giving up on themselves or are close to giving up on themselves.
17. Freeda Verasko – Blue Submarine No. 6
Verasko is a 27-year-old Mexican girl who pilots the Blue 6 submarine. Raised in a military family with her father being an officer in the Mexican Army, she learned early on how to take care of herself both physically and mentally. It was not easy growing up always having to prove oneself or make excuses for something they did not do, but Verasko never let it stop her from trying hard at anything she put her mind too; especially when it came to drawing or painting which turned out as more than just hobbies for this adventurous young woman but things that brought her joy.
18. Sheila Levitt – Terraformars
Sheila is a Mexican girl who was forced to escape with her mother due to her father committing suicide. They met up with old friends and family members before leaving the country, some of whom helped them leave while others just wanted them gone without getting involved.
Alongside two childhood friends, she followed through on an idea for this better life. Sheila was always friendly, but now it seems especially so in times when people really need one another.
19. Jinn Gehenam – Mobile Suit Victory Gundam
Jinn was of Mexican descent, and always acted as the League Militaire leader to confuse enemies. He led them away from the true leader of the group- Hangerg Ewin. When it was revealed he wasn’t really in charge – Jinn continued to lead attacks against the Zanscare empire in order to prove his dominance within the league militsare.
20. Thunder Hawk – Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
Thunder Hawk can’t really be considered an anime character because of his appearance in the film, even if he is a videogame character. However, he is still a brave, noble and tough warrior who seeks revenge against M.Bison for hurting and killing his people and destroying his homeland. Thunder Hawk has never been painted as sympathetic or caring about others – which only drives him to take action because of how badly he wants to exact revenge on those who wronged him.
Conclusion
