Last Friday, the Gujarati movie Fakt Mahilao Maate, starring Amitabh Bachchan was released. Despite limited promotion and being up against the big Bollywood release Do Baaraa, this regional production has made quite an impact. Audiences have given it positive feedback and its box–office collection is steadily increasing in both domestic and overseas markets. All signs point to this small–budget flick turning out to be a surprising hit.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Fakt Mahilao Maate proved a success in the North American box office with an impressive Rs. 26.80 lakhs being earned from its opening weekend! This can be attributed to the U.S.A market which saw Rs. 6.87 lakhs earned, as well as the Canadian market which drew in an extra Rs. 19.93 lakhs despite being released across only 26 and 12 screens respectively in those locations!
As the box office receipts of Fakt Mahilao Maate continue to grow while many other Bollywood releases are struggling, trade estimates believe that the movie will overtake Do Baaraa’s collections despite its broader reach and greater number of theaters. It looks as if Fakt Mahilao Maate is in a position to succeed beyond anyone’s expectations.
