Yet another day, yet again very good footfalls. Drishyam 2 has been exceeding expectations ever since it was released and things have stayed on to be quite good for the past six days, what with Rs. 9.5 crores* more coming in today. There are just ten Hindi films that have crossed the Rs. 10 Crores mark on the day of release and here Drishyam2 is doing just a little less than that today on its sixth day out. In fact, out of all Bollywood movies that were released this year – Drishyam2 did even better than two other movies; Brahmastra (Rs. 10.5 crores) and The Kashmir Files (Rs 50 Crores), so that pretty much tells you how successful it’s already become!
The Ajay Devgn starrer has so far collected Rs. 95.99 crores* and as you read this, the film would be gearing up for its Rs. 100 Crore Club celebrations. There is still a lot more that the film will achieve though – As indications show it’s just halfway through! The movie will surely surpass Bollywood hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs. 185.92 crores). What people also want to see, however, is how it could potentially reach the Rs. 200 Crore Club after that landmark achievement; which many dubbing it an impressive benchmark of Indian cinema today!
Meanwhile, though Uunchai had been holding steady at Rs. 30 crores*, it didn’t seem like anything big was going to happen soon. The Sooraj Barjatya-directed movie suffered in weekday returns; and this was evident on Wednesday too – where just Rs. 0.60 crore* were collected in total. With the film hovering around the average/below-average range, there wasn’t much hope left for a good first week’s performance from here on out either (especially considering how poorly other movies are doing). That said, with total collections of Rs. 25.52 crore* so far, it hasn’t done too badly either – especially if you consider the fact that almost all other movies released this year have gotten nowhere near being able to say the same!
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
