Drishyam 2 has been a grand success because every person who has seen it loves it. Chatter about the twists in the story is being spread amongst friends and family, creating an environment of hype that hasn’t been seen before. Fortunately, audiences are more sensitized to movies than ever before – which means those who don’t want spoilers won’t call out anything about what happens on social media or other platforms such as YouTube or Twitter. The love for this movie displays how great these filmmakers were because anyone would tell another person about how wonderful this movie was without giving anything away beforehand and that definitely shows just how satisfying this film really is.
It is evident from the numbers that seem to be trending in our favour. On Tuesday we collected Rs. 10.48 crores (which is barely a drop off from Monday’s collections of Rs. 11.87 crores), which means it could very well happen again today or tomorrow too, which would make for yet another thriving weekend for us! As of now, the Ajay Devgn starrer has grossed an impressive amount of Rs. 86.49 crores (less than two days into release) – but by tomorrow morning it will most likely have crossed the mark and will enter the coveted 100 Crore club!
Meanwhile, Uunchai would have a just about reasonable lifetime number now, what with the collections seeing a steep drop during the weekdays. The film had somehow survived the first week and then held on during the second weekend as well. However, the cracks are now visible with collections now barely managing to be over the Rs. 50 lakhs mark. This can well be seen from Tuesday collections that are at Rs. 0.65 crores of this morning only – an astounding 80% less than yesterday’s figures of 1 crore rupees! Surely enough there was only one competitor for this movie this time around – Drishyam 2 which did not disappoint either! With numbers that doubled those of Akshay Kumar’s latest release Airlift, Dhibakat does seem doomed for extinction; after all coming up short by almost 25 crores already in its run so far despite it being still running strong past its two-week milestone!
