Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai achieved an amazing feat at the box office on Monday by earning more than what it did on its opening day. After scoring Rs. 1.81 crores on Friday, the film saw an increase in numbers on Monday as it amassed Rs. 1.88 crores (3.87% hike), which is a rarity for movies – typically they go through a fall in numbers due to negative word-of-mouth/reviews or other factors that diminish foot traffic on Mondays while up against several other releases being released during the weekdays where people may want to save money and wait until Tuesday or Wednesday when there are fewer films competing for viewership just yet).
Rajshri Productions also used an old strategy of slowly increasing the number of theaters showing their film when it opened up. Even though they started with only 483 theaters, they were able to at least increase that amount by the time their next opening came around. They did this because they wanted to see what sort of demand there was for the new movie before moving forward – and it turns out that so many people wanted to see it. This is one of the many reasons why Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was such a success on its first weekend.
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files leads the pack, posting phenomenal figures up to now. With a good opening weekend, it only grew more immense on its first Monday grossing Rs 15.05 crore-almost tripling its original earnings in such little time! Surprisingly, Laal Singh Chaddha made an appearance here even though the movie wasn’t successful at the box office; but still managed a modest 8.4% bump from what we see from day one (Monday). Yet despite seeing people come back to watch it again because of Rajpath Diwas, this doesn’t compare or come close to these blockbuster numbers – which makes it impossible for anyone else but Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s magnum opus claim the top spot!
Similarly, Khuda Haafiz: Chapter II – Agnipariksha has acquired the second place in the 2022 list due to this very reason. Filmed by Vidyut Jammwal and starring himself in the leading role, this movie opened at Rs 1.31 crores on Friday. It saw a hike when it made Rs 1.70 crore – simply because it was a national holiday for the festival of Eid-ul-Azha. The Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Badhaai Do also had an increase in numbers when they made Rs 1.85 crores – which is higher than its opening weekend of only Rs 1.65 crores – but only because there are people who celebrate Valentine’s Day in India (although it’s not a big holiday).
On its first Monday, Rocketry has accumulated a number-high of viewers and gained 4.8% which is credited to the film’s original content being well received by audiences. Out of 6 films receiving this phenomenon in 2022, only The Kashmir Files and Uunchai have been successful thus far with some time before concluding their box office run. Surprisingly enough Anupam Kher has played an important role in both of these movies. There hasn’t been one Hindi movie to get such ratings since cinemas were closed down due to COVID-19 outbreak in the last two years ago.
