Unchai did quite well on Saturday, with collections soaring past Rs. 3.6 crore rupees (close to $500K USD). Compared to its opening day when it made just under Rs. 1 crore rupees (about $142k), Unchai has already seen an increase of 100% or close-to-100%, which would have been perfect for the film. So far, reviews are getting mixed but high praise overall; while Unchai is not entirely targeting everyone in India, most Indians who see it find something they love about it – and judging by how many people saw Unchai this weekend, a lot of people seem interested in Unchai so far.
To date, the trend is overwhelmingly positive and while this weekend will likely yield a significant increase in revenue, we need to see if people are still interested in seeing more than just an additional 50% upswing. It could also potentially lead to less interest for Sunday night showings due to its long 2 hour 30 minute run-time limit which could result in decreased attendance rates. To date, this film has grossed 6 million rupees – which is excellent!
Meanwhile, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is doing well in the box office with Rs. 14 crores* coming in. The film received positive feedback from audiences on Friday with Rs. 12.50 crores coming in and now show an increase on Saturday, this trend for Marvel’s latest superhero offering is impressive. This film has exceeded expectations and will see higher footfalls as Sunday approaches given that it surpassed Rs. 26 crore*. While overall movie-going interest had been low these past months, Black Panther broke free of the norm to see a significant amount come through already at over Rs. 40 crore*.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
