AMD released their disruptive Ryzen processors nearly half a year ago. There has been a lot of talk about cores, overclocking and how it compares to Intel’s products. What makes AMD so special is that they offer you high core counts and low prices- qualities that make this company so competitive with its rivals such as Intel.

You may want to consider your motherboard before you purchase a high-end Ryzen processor, especially one with a higher number of cores. These motherboards are the most stable when it comes to overclocking performance; another useful feature is how they generally get updated more quickly than other boards.

This article will compare the two top motherboards for AMD Ryzen processors – X370 vs. X470. It will also include an overview of what people are saying about each board and how it compares to other boards, such as B450.

    Main Features Of X370

In order to give you a heads up, both of these chipsets are compatible with AMD’s new 2nd Generation Ryzen processors. That being said, if you already own an X370 motherboard then it won’t be hard for you to add the latest chip technology into your rig. Let’s explore what makes this chipset so special!

The X370 chipset supports overclocking, which offers incredible potential compared to B450 (RYZEN’S mid-range choice). Only DDR4 memory with a speed of 2667Mhz can be used. On the bright side though, CPUs don’t consume as much power anymore thanks to Ryzen 2nd gen; but there may still be an issue since these CPUs are made specifically for high-speed RAM. It’s got 6 USB 3.0 ports and 2 more new 10mbps ones – only compatible with AMD graphics cards as well – Crossfire support is also possible but PCIe NVME M2 drives aren’t supported yet.

You might have already grabbed yourself a new first-generation AMD Ryzen CPU. If so, you’ll need an X370 motherboard for it – we reviewed the best ones here!

Despite X470’s arrival, X370 remains an excellent offering. However, if you’re building a completely new PC with a Ryzen 2000 series processor, then it may be worth considering how the few advantages offered by X470 will affect your experience when compared to using its predecessor.

    Main Features Of X470

In essence, if you like what was in previous AMD chipsets for AM4 socket boards then you will really love X470 because it does nothing but improve upon these features. Like its predecessor X370, it supports both CrossFire as well as Raid Storage Support. The device still offers six USB 3.0 (5 Mbps) ports as well as two 3.1 Gen2 (10 Mbps) ports.

What improvements does the X470 chipset offer over its predecessor, the X370? Improvements include increased overclocking potential for new Ryzen processors, along with a max memory clock speed of 2933MHz. The result is significantly improved performance.

While X470 might not seem like much of an upgrade over X370, if you’re planning on upgrading to a new AMD Ryzen 2nd Gen processor anyway then this motherboard will come in handy. It provides better-overclocking performance and supports higher memory speeds.
