As the theatrical run of Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram nears its end, it is all set to make its OTT debut next week. This movie has had an impressive five-week box office journey with an approximate global collection of Rs. 420 crores. It is a big success in Tamil Nadu, and it has also hit the 100-crore mark internationally.
Vikram’s venture in Tamil Nadu concluded with a spectacular overall of Rs. 175 crores, a figure Rs. 20 crores more than the prior record set by Baahubali – The Conclusion. Furthermore, the movie reaped a whopping Rs. 120 crores in overseas revenues. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala comprised the top 3 earners for the film with each region earning Rs. 39 crores.
Karnataka has acquired the second position with an immense sum of Rs. 25 crores, and the North Indian markets have contributed a substantial figure of Rs. 18 crores. This historic feat has provided great gratification to all those involved and marks a milestone of revival for the Tamil Film Industry which had stagnated in the post–Baahubali 2 era. Since Rajinikanth and Ajith movies did not witness lasting success, it was Vijay who took over the baton of leading the Tamil cinema industry, but now Kamal Haasan has grasped the challenge to bring a massive hit.
It is going to be an uphill task for any film to challenge the numbers of Vikram in the near future and it might be one film from the director, Lokesh Kanagaraj universe, that might surpass the collections if reception from audience is similar.
