With the kind of trend we saw this past weekend, some good hopes have been raised that there may just be a film with in it to finally break out. Yes, there had been event films that did quite well over the weekend and then continued on to do well even during weekdays. But when it came to non-event films, the trend has been sorely missed all throughout 2022. Moreover, for Uunchai it was also required that Monday collections were actually up from Friday – or else it wasn’t going to make its budget back; but considering how it doesn’t come cheap anyway – people need something extra for an incentive.
Thankfully, word-of-mouth is powerful and so the movie earned Rs. 88 lakhs* on Monday—despite being a weekday. This is excellent for movies because they usually decline by 25%-30% even when people love them and typically drop by over 50% from Friday to Monday. However, it’s important to note that in this case, it went up! This gives me hope that it will eventually earn enough money to be successful. So far, the movie has earned 12 crore rupees*, which is certainly much higher than most expectations before release day – but there are still many days left before we can call it a success.
As for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it doesn’t have to worry about a sustained run because its daily collections are high as they come. It will play out like most big ticket films and earn its money quickly – within a few days – just like any other major Hollywood blockbuster. This is the reason why even Friday to Monday drop won’t make that much of a difference; so long as it isn’t too steep since weekends alone will bring in at least Rs.40 crore*. The film brought in Rs. 5.50 crores* on Tuesday when compared to Friday’s earnings of Rs. 12 crores*, and had also earned approximately Rs.6-7 crores* per day if things were going well enough without being driven off course by something new (ahem Avengers). Yet despite all this, Black Panther still stands with potential to cross the magical figure of 100 crore*.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
