With so many facts out there, it can be hard to know which ones are worth learning about. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of the top 10 facts that are sure to fascinate and surprise you. Read on to uncover some fascinating information.

Fact #1: The Tallest Building in the World is in Dubai

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing at an impressive 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall. Completed in 2010, it has become an iconic symbol of modern architecture. It is so tall that you can see the sunset twice – once from the ground and again from the observation deck on the 124th floor.

Fact #2: The Human Nose Can Detect Over 1 Trillion Different Scents

Our sense of smell is more powerful than we often realize. The human nose can detect over 1 trillion different scents, far more than the previously estimated 10,000. This incredible ability is thanks to the 400 different types of scent receptors that we have in our noses.

Fact #3: There Are More Possible Iterations of a Game of Chess Than There Are Atoms in the Observable Universe

Chess is a game of strategy that has been played for centuries. While it may seem like there are only a limited number of moves that can be made, the number of possible iterations of a game of chess is actually greater than the number of atoms in the observable universe. This means that no two games of chess are ever truly alike.

Fact #4: The Shortest War in History Lasted Only 38 Minutes

In 1896, the Anglo-Zanzibar War broke out. It was the shortest war in history, lasting only 38 minutes before the Zanzibar Sultanate surrendered to the British. The conflict was sparked by a dispute over the succession of the sultanate’s throne.

Fact #5: The World’s Largest Desert is Not the Sahara

While the Sahara Desert is often considered to be the largest desert in the world, it is actually the second largest. The title of largest desert goes to the Antarctic Desert, which covers an area of approximately 14 million square kilometers.

Fact #6: The Earth Has More Than One North Pole

Most of us are familiar with the concept of the North Pole as the point at which the Earth’s axis of rotation intersects with its surface. However, there are actually two North Poles – the geographic North Pole and the magnetic North Pole. The geographic North Pole is the point at which the Earth’s axis of rotation intersects with its surface, while the magnetic North Pole is the point at which the Earth’s magnetic field points vertically downwards.

Fact #7: The Longest Word in the English Language Has 189,819 Letters

The longest word in the English language is the chemical name for titin, a protein found in human muscle. The name has 189,819 letters and takes over three hours to pronounce! Thankfully, it is rarely used outside of scientific contexts.

Fact #8: The World’s Largest Living Organism is a Fungus

While blue whales are often considered the largest living organism, the title actually belongs to a fungus. Armillaria ostoyae, also known as the honey mushroom, covers over 2,200 acres in Oregon’s Blue Mountains. It is estimated to be around 8,000 years old!

Fact #9: The Oldest Known Living Organism is Over 5,000 Years Old

Speaking of old organisms, the oldest known living organism is a Great Basin bristlecone pine tree known as Methuselah. It is located in California’s White Mountains and is over 5,000 years old. That means it was already a sapling when the Great Pyramid of Giza was being constructed!

Fact #10: A Group of Flamingos is Called a Flamboyance

Finally, did you know that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance? These beautiful birds are often seen standing on one leg in shallow waters, filtering food from the mud with their unique beaks.
