Stomach Pain in Pregnancy: As the uterus continues to grow throughout a woman’s pregnancy, stomach discomfort becomes increasingly worse. In addition to abdominal pain and difficulty in sitting, tightness or pain in the lower abdomen may also be experienced due to constriction. This symptom can greatly alter one’s daily routine- some wrong habits such as ingesting too many salty foods or gas-inducing foods such as beans and cabbage can lead to these side effects of increased discomfort. For additional knowledge on how best to care for oneself during this time, we consulted with Dr. Deepa Sharma from Jhalkaribai Hospital in Lucknow who specializes in gynecology.

    Stomach feels tight during pregnancy

    1. Retention of urine

Due to how full the bladder is, it will often cause a sensation of tightness in the stomach area. Don’t make the mistake of holding urine while pregnant – it can lead to a variety of different symptoms including abdominal cramping, gas, or even feelings of overall discomfort in one’s stomach region. Besides that, if you manage to hold your urine while pregnant for an extended period, there could be an increased risk for urinary tract infections; which are already very difficult to get rid of when considering what other changes happen to one’s body during this time – such as weakening immune systems.

    2. Drinking less water during pregnancy

Women who are pregnant should drink enough water to stay hydrated. They may experience stomach cramping, body aches, dizziness and fatigue if they don’t consume the right fluids. Tomatoes, lemons, flaxseeds, coconuts and herbal teas are all good sources of hydration for pregnant women.

    3. Staying in one position

Doctors recommend you not stay in one position for too long when pregnant. Sitting or lying down puts pressure on the uterus and can cause discomfort, tightness, and pain in your abdomen from cramping. One of the best ways to combat these problems is to take frequent breaks while working so that you are using different parts of your body – readjusting often will also release endorphins which produce natural painkillers. Changing positions also helps prevent blood clots and varicose veins!

    4. Not exercising during pregnancy

In the second trimester of pregnancy, the unborn child starts kicking due to which the pregnant mother will feel a heaviness in her stomach. Stretching and yoga are both effective ways for relieving pain and discomfort during this time period.

    5. Taking wrong diet during pregnancy

Due to constipation during pregnancy, the stomach feels tight and heavy. Apart from constipation, there are problems like gas, abdominal pain during pregnancy. The cause of this can be an unbalanced diet. Avoid eating oily or sugary foods or spices that irritate the gut like chilies when pregnant. This will make your stomach feel even tighter! You need to eat just enough for both you and your baby – not too much, but also not too little either. Often times mothers-to-be are always hungry because they’re growing a child inside them, so they tend to overindulge in food which leads only more discomfort!

What to do if you feel stomach tight during pregnancy?

If you find that your stomach muscles are too tight, it might be time to consider taking some precautions.

Take a sip of lukewarm water or hot milk. This will make the stomach feel light and provide relief to the muscles. Abdominal tightness occurs during pregnancy because there is increased pressure on the lining of the womb (uterus) or abdomen. To relieve this, you can take a warm bath. Take an abdominal massage when taking a bath in order to ease these cramps out while making sure they don’t happen again later on since inflammation might occur if you rub too hard. Alternatively, try doing some deep breathing exercises in order to prevent any future complications from occurring – which would be anything from anxiety about being pregnant up until having trouble carrying your baby once it arrives!
