Yesterday, Karan Malhotra’s directorial debut Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor, hit the theatres. It was highly anticipated that the movie would be received warmly. Unfortunately, the response to the film was less than impressive, with not only criticism from the critics but also lack of appreciation from the audience. To everyone’s dismay, even with a massive screen count of 4350, Shamshera managed to gather only Rs. 10.25 crore on the first day of its release. However, on its second day, there was a small increase in the collections when compared to its first day performance.
In this report on box office collections, we compare the second-day takings of Shamshera with previous releases from the year 2022. It earned Rs. 10.50 cr and stands as the eighth highest second-day grosser of the year. With respect to the highest second-day grossers, we have releases like K.G.F – Chapter 2 that raked in Rs. 42.90 cr, RRR that collected Rs. 24 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 that brought in Rs. 18.34 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi that earned Rs. 13.32 cr, Samrat Prithviraj that grossed Rs. 12.60 cr, Jugjugg Jeeyo that gained Rs. 12.55 cr, and Bachchhan Paandey which brought in Rs. 11.50 cr. Though, Shamshera managed to surpass films such as The Kashmir Files which gathered Rs. 8.50 cr and Heropanti 2 which made Rs. 5.50 cr in their respective second-day collections. When compared to solely Hindi releases, Shamshera stands at the sixth place.
Going forward, Shamshera which continues to run in theatres is expected to see a slight increase on its third day running. With little to no competition at the box office, the film which has been underperforming consistently is likely to see its Day 3 collections hovering in the same range.
