The much-anticipated and highly promoted Ranbir Kapoor starrer, Shamshera, released a week ago under the direction of Karan Malhotra, also starring Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. Unfortunately, the film did not get off to a great start, having opened to lukewarm reception. With its whopping 4350 screen release, the movie could not draw enough audiences and failed to set the box office on fire, with the lukewarm reviews and poor feedback from the viewers only worsening the situation.
With this box office report, we take a look at the first week collections of Shamshera and how they compare to the other releases of 2022. The movie earned Rs. 40.05 cr in its opening week, becoming the ninth highest grossing film of the year. Preceding Shamshera in the highest grossing first week films are KGF – Chapter 2 ( Rs. 268.63 cr ), RRR ( Rs. 132.59 cr ), The Kashmir Files ( Rs. 97.30 cr ), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ( Rs. 92.05 cr ), Gangubai Kathiawadi ( Rs. 68.93 cr ), Samrat Prithviraj ( Rs. 55.05 cr ), Jugjugg Jeeyo ( Rs. 53.66 cr ), and Bachchhan Paandey ( Rs. 47.98 cr ). It’s worth noting that Shamshera surpassed the collections of the other release, Heropanti 2, which earned Rs. 23.60 cr in its opening week.
In the days to come, it is not likely that the collections for Shamshera, which has been faring dismally at the box office, will rise any further. And with Ek Villain Returns hitting theatres this week, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer is effectively absent from them now.
