While there are many factors that go into making up the success or failure of a movie – such as promotion and marketing, one contributing factor could be competition from another film. Case in point – the failure of Runway 34 which opened to low attendance numbers might have been due to it having difficulty competing against KGF – Chapter 2 which was doing really well at theaters around this time period.
After a much hyped three-week opening, the collections for Runway 34 have been disappointing. The latest earnings report shows an additional Rs. 2.97 crores grossed in week 3 making the film’s total collection amount Rs. 32.22 crores – far from what was anticipated given all the hype going into it. With new releases hitting theaters during subsequent weeks taking away from the audience share for this Ajay Devgn starrer, it does not seem likely that there will be many more additions to these already gloomy numbers; prediction models for how much longer it will stay in cinemas hover around being done with a reported earning of about Rs. 35 crores before all is said and done (and counting).
