After the harrowing pandemic lockdown, movie theaters were among those who were hurt the most – until recently. With the government releasing 100% occupancy for businesses, it seems like this recent release Roohi will also benefit from people returning to work and spending money again at these establishments.
In today’s box office report, we will be taking a look at the opening day collections of Roohi while comparing it to Rajkummar Rao’s previous release. Collecting Rs. 3.06 cr on its first day alone, Roohi has managed to become Rajkummar’s third highest All Time Opening Day Grosser; which is pretty impressive for someone who only released their first film about two years ago!
What makes this even more surprising – and worth mentioning – is that despite all the apprehension most people face when going out these days, the business of Roohi has managed to surpass anything else he had made before it (namely Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Dolly Ki Doli, Bareilly ki Barfi, and Fanney Khan) while only being his fifth release if you count both movies and singles (hence why some people are claiming him as one of Bollywoods new phenomenons).
It is said that the extended weekend may work to Roohi’s advantage, but all isn’t lost yet. Trade reports show an increase in anticipated sales due to positive feedback from audiences and increased turnout at theaters. There is still time before we see people flock back to this new release just yet; but things are beginning to look up for all involved now.
