Ponniyin Selvan-1, directed by Mani Ratnam, which has been out for quite some time now is doing very well domestically. It wasn’t doing so hot at first but after a few days it started gaining popularity as people who saw it later couldn’t stop raving about how good it was. Overseas too it’s been getting positive reviews from all around and quickly became one of the highest grossing Tamil movies within this decade.
Now at the close of its fifth week in theatres, Ponniyin Selvan-1 has managed to make over Rs. 210 crore worth of income from just Tamil Nadu, making it one of the most successful films made without Rajnikant. In fact, each day only seems to add onto its total success; as PS-1 manages to record an even higher number than before–Rs. 211 crores in just five weeks – taking place among the top five most profitable Tamil movies ever created. And given its wider audience across international markets outside India, Ponniyin Selvan-1 is able to outdo all expectations from both Indian and foreign cinemas alike – bringing in an unbelievable total earnings amounting up to Rs. 465 crore.
Currently, Ponniyin Selvan-1 continues to thrive and manages to stay strong despite being an old film. With no release in sight that could compete with this movie, there is high chance that the production house behind it will see some good business both domestically and internationally because of how popular this movie has become. There are even discussions about how PS-1 might reach Rs. 220 cr. at the Tamil Nadu box office and Rs. 500 cr worldwide – which would be astounding if they were proven true!
