Last year, aswell as at the beginning of this year, we published three articles in which we queried trade experts on the potential box office earnings of digital films had they released in theaters. As the articles were met with immense approval, we have now come back with another such venture.
Two weeks , the highly anticipated Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai, starring Salman Khan and Disha Patani, debuted digitally in India and simultaneously had a theatrical release overseas. To examine how the movie would have performed in two different hypothetical scenarios, Bollywood Hungama reached out to industry experts. The first scenario assumed that Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai released alone at the box office, while the second supposed a theatrical release alongside Akshay Kumar’s Laxmii. The two movies were originally slated to open against each other during Eid 2020 before the onset of the pandemic. Both films ended up receiving negative reviews when they were eventually released online.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “Had Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai come solo, it would have got the advantage in the single screens. But looking at the merits of the film, I doubt if it would have sustained after the first week or even after the first weekend. In multiplexes, its performance would have been poor after the initial curiosity because the film is weak.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, expressedhis opinion that in normal circumstances, Salman Khan’s latest movie, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai, would have collected around Rs. 175 crore. Noting that the content was not as up to mark as it could have been, Johar noted that the collection would still have been substantial. Trade expert Komal Nahta also agreed, predicting that if the film had come solo, it would have brought in at least Rs. 175 to 200 crore at the cinemas.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan sharedthoughts, commenting that had it not been for the pandemic, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would have been much improved. The team had been intending to film the climax in Thailand but the lockdown made this impossible. As a result, the continuity may have been compromised; but it must be remembered that all of those involved are experienced professionals and thus it was simply unavoidable in the circumstances.
