Since it premiered on August 11, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has been spiralling in popularity. Its fortunes showed no signs of recovery after a disastrous first seven days and an additional dip in numbers on Thursday was just the nail in the coffin. As per early estimates, it collected between 1.35 and 1.45 crores on its eight day – pushing the overall opening week figures to 50.98 crores – making this cinematic venture a colossal failure at the box office.
Despite the much–anticipated release of Laal Singh Chaddha, it looks like the lifetime collection will fall short of Rs. 55 crores – making it one of Aamir Khan’s least successful movies. Even if the movie triumphs in absolute figures at the box office, it can still be considered a loser as far as profit is concerned. Though LSC surpasses Raksha Bandhan by 10 crore earnings, it seems that losses incurred from this project are nearly 4 times more than Akshay Kumar’s film.
Audiences from both metropolitan and rural areas have overwhelmingly disapproved of Laal Singh Chaddha. This has made it one of the worst word–of–mouth experiences for an Aamir Khan film in two decades, even more catastrophic than Mela. Had the movie been released on a non–holiday, it would not have earned over 50 crore rupees at the box office – easily making it one of the biggest flops ever.
Laal Singh Chaddha will have been withdrawn from the majority of cinemas by today and its lack of popularity has led to it having fewer screenings than Dobaara and Karthikeya 2 over the next weekend.
