Despite being a sequel, the Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 managed to impress both fans and movie critics alike when it was released earlier this week. The plot continues from where it left off in 2013 with Ajay Devgan playing Hiranand Salgaonkar, who is well-known for solving problems no one else can solve. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna (appearing as Salgaonkar’s lawyer), Tabu (Salgaokar’s wife) and Shreya Saran (Salgaokar’s daughter). Its opening weekend business made a sharp upturn on its second day after the first showings were decent but not spectacular.
The film has opened up well in the overseas market, too. It took in USD 259k (2.11cr) at the UAE/ GCC Box Office on its opening day thanks to pre-release ticket sales alone. With good reviews and some positive feedback so far, it seems that Drishyam 2 may find an international audience soon enough – especially considering how lackluster Bollywood releases have been lately (at least domestically).
Going forward, Drishyam 2 which has been welcomed with open arms by viewers is predicted to skyrocket in popularity. Trade estimates predict that this film which was released across 4150 screens (3302 domestic + 858 overseas) will only continue growing throughout the upcoming weeks.
