Ranveer Singh’s debut outing, Jayeshbhai Jordaar has performed very poorly at the box office. According to early estimates, the movie managed to collect in the range of Rs. 2.85 to 3.15 crores on its first day out. The film had next-to-nothing going for it and even if one were to make a guess based off just morning showings alone, Rs 2250 crores would have been a stretch goal. As expected there was some growth as patrons trickled out into evening/night screenings; bringing the total around $3 crores or so by then – but this wasn’t nearly enough to give it an auspicious start with typical runs yielding anywhere between Rs 25-35 crores max depending how well things go). This performance basically sunk its chances before they could ever really take off because after all – it was just about time for another post apocalyptic release.
One would’ve thought word-of-mouth alone could help ensure an uptick at the box office this weekend; however, while Jayeshbhai Jordaar has been met with praise from critics, the talk has been largely negative. Though this film seems like it was made for moviegoers who frequent multiplexes, the visual style doesn’t seem to appeal to high end audiences anymore either – so much so that it may not have even needed someone as popular as Ranveer Singh in it.
At this point though it’s too late to do anything about it; hopefully when all is said and done, this won’t be a total disaster of a failure because there are few releases coming up soon after. Nevertheless, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for some kind of shocking turn around when you consider how unsuccessful the opening weekend might turn out to be.
