This past few Fridays have been terribly dismal for Hindi film-goers. Goodbye and Vikram Vedha are both viewed as disappointments even though they had so much potential to succeed. Both films were lukewarm at best, never reaching their full potential – leaving cinema goers feeling unsatisfied once again. However, this is nothing compared to how disappointed people will feel after the release of director Rajamouli’s newest film Brahmastra which has only gained limited traction over its opening ten days due to these subpar films.
Goodbye could just now grow over the weekend and its total stands at Rs. 4 crores*. This is extremely low and less than even first day numbers of Piku which had a similar set up and had collected Rs. 5.58 crores on its first day. For this Vikas Behl directed film, a weekend of Rs. 10 crores was expected at a bare minimum but the numbers that have come in are less than half of what they should be; thus saddening many involved with it all around.
On the other hand, after being flopped for 2 weeks ago, Vikram Vedha has collected only Rs. 5 crores* on Sunday. This is a decrease from Friday and Saturday where both days were comparable to one another yet still better than Sunday. One will just have to wait and see if the film stays at this level over the weekdays or if it declines when compared to Friday’s income of Rs. 10 crores*. Even so, at most 6 crores more could be added until Thursday bringing its current total of around 75 crore* rupees (Rs). So far, the film has collected 70 crore* rupees (Rs)*.
As for PS-1, the film has been doing well at selected theaters. It currently stands at Rs. 18.65 crores* and will eventually reach past Rs. 25 crores to become an average success story; this is great especially with the current market trends.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
