After one week in theaters, Brahmastra has earned Rs. 170 crores* (and south versions) at the box office. This is quite good, considering that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was last year’s biggest movie and the next one to do well was JugJugg Jeeyo – which followed with another string of disappointments for Bollywood. Now at least there is a successful movie like Brahmastra which has finally arrived after all these years – making me hopeful for what awaits us next.
It had been doing exceedingly well from the start and when it continued growing each day throughout the weekends, things were looking promising for its first week total – reaching up to about Rs 180-200 crores*. But then over this past week, audiences cooled off on it and even though the decline wasn’t bad enough to say it failed yet – we’re still waiting for a sure hit verdict.
The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starring movie has yet to make its way into the 200-Crore club. With no other major releases in sight for at least the next few days, it seems like this will happen sooner than later- especially considering how much it’s currently earning each day. This can only be made possible if 30 crore more are collected by Sunday evening – which should not be difficult, seeing as they were already planning on releasing a sequel soon after the first film’s release anyway.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections should be according to the production and distribution sources
