Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra continues to do well at the box office this week. Collecting between $10-11 million USD on Wednesday, the film now has a six day revenue of $161 million USD. This makes it one of the most successful films in recent years as it approaches an end-of-week total of $170 million USD.
The film has been doing exceptionally well at the national chains: PVR, INOX, and CINEPOLIS. Across all theaters nationwide, it has shown an unusual drop on weekdays compared to other releases so far this year. With the exception of weekday numbers, Brahmastra was only marginally successful in its opening weekend- it performed like a Hollywood release during the weekends but dropped dramatically after Sunday evening.
After the current trend, Brahmastra is projected to earn a big increase over its second week. Saturday alone should bring in at least Rs. 35 crores which means it will only take 10 days for Brahmastra to break into the coveted Rs 200 Crore Club. Audience reviews are mixed, but if the feedback has been largely positive then reaching Rs 300 Crore territory wouldn’t be an impossible task – considering pre-release hype and anticipation of success.
From its Rs 161 crore earnings so far, around 142 crores comes from Hindi while a total of nineteen lakhs have come from dubbed versions made in other languages including Tamil and Telugu; what happens during this second week decides whether or not Brahmastra reaches 1 billion rupees (US $16 million) at the end of its run.
