Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 took an exceptional opening at the box office in India with the film gaining momentum of unprecedented proportion throughout the evening and night shows. In accordance to early estimates, the movie has collected between Rs. 14.50 and Rs. 15 crores on its opening day – overshadowing even the optimistic industry estimates for only about Rs. 12 crores.
This film does an excellent job in keeping people interested, with all three cinemas earning an astounding sum of about $770,000 (Rs. 740 lakh). It’s second place for highest grossing Bollywood films this year – coming close to Brahmastra at around $700,000 (Rs. 700 lakh) – but what truly sets the opening day aside from other entries is its gripping thrill factor. People across the country are drawn to these sorts of movies because they want something different and while some may find it predictable or even uneventful at times, others will love being taken on a wild ride through this high-paced movie that keeps them guessing until the very end.
On the first day of its release, Drishyam 2 was met with praise from audiences and critics alike for both its trailer and Ajay Devgn’s star power. The hype leading up to its release left no room for disappointment – which meant that its opening numbers were only going to grow larger from then on. With a number at around Rs. 50 crores by the end of the week, this Abhishek Pathak directed Bollywood film has been hailed as necessary remedy in the current Hindi Film Industry drought due to its high standards in storytelling, cinematography, editing, directing and acting.
