The horrorcomedy film, Roohi, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rakummar Rao, had its premiere last week to mixed reactions from the viewers. Nevertheless, audiences have slowly started returning to the theatres despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Although the movie began on a positive note, its collections took a slight hit on the second day. But during the opening weekend, there was a noticeable jump in Roohi’s earnings. Comparing its performance with Janhvi’s last film, Dhadak, which earned 33.67 crores, Roohi made only 12.58 crores over the extended weekend. With the recent re-opening of cinemas and the general reluctance of people to go out due to the resurfacing of the virus, it’s no surprise that Roohi has faced an unexpected downfall in its box office figures. Furthermore, some locations had already imposed earlier showtimes and night curfews, while others saw full-on lockdowns, further denting the business of Roohi.
In fact, trade experts state that given the current scenario Roohi has been performing as expected. Going forward all eyes are now on the film’s first Monday collections, with estimates stating that the business of Roohi will continue to grow over the week.
