Following a year of lockdown, theaters are once again running, with filmmakers taking to the occasion to set the release dates of their upcoming works. Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s Roohi received a mix of reactions from viewers, likely stemming from an unwillingness to venture out into populated public areas in light of news that the Covid-19 virus was regaining momentum. Yet, despite these fears, the movie managed to exceed box office expectations.

The movie earned a total of Rs. 12.58 crore in its four-day extended weekend, making it the third highest all-time opening weekend grosser for Rao. His two other movies, Stree and Judgemental Hai Kya, respectively collected Rs. 31.26 crore and Rs. 19 crore to top the list. Roohi also performed better than some of Rao’s other releases, such as Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (Rs. 11.83 crore), Bareilly Ki Barfi (Rs. 11.52 crore), Dolly Ki Doli (Rs. 10.75 crore) and Queen (Rs. 10 crore).
Roohi isplaying in theaters and is predicted to see success in its opening week. Unfortunately, the resurgence of Covid-19 has brought on curfews in some areas and full lockdowns in others, which could potentially hurt the film’s box office earnings. However, analysts still anticipate a strong performance from Roohi despite the unfavorable conditions.
