KGF – Chapter 2 opened with a bang and received tremendous support right off the bat. The movie enjoyed high occupancy rates, intense hype and 4x hours of weekday screening time. Additionally, it had collected over Rs.200 crore (US$29 million) in less than five days! However, KGF-Chapter 2s first Monday failed to meet expectations by receiving close to half of what its first Sunday grossed. Now on day 6, it has again raked up Rs.19 crores (US$2.83 million). This put KGF-Chapter 2s total earnings to just under US$33 million (Rs 238 crore).
This is an article about how much KGF – Chapter 2 earned on its opening day (first Tuesday) and compares it to some other films released in 2022. On its first day, the movie made 19 crores while surpassing the opening day collection of The Kashmir Files which was 18 crores. Besides this, it did better than other recent releases such as RRR which collected 15 crores, Gubbai Kathiawadi which collected 10 crores, Bachchan Paaandey which collected 3.2 crores, or Badaaii doo who only earned 1.1 crore rupees for their opening days respectively (meaning they did worse).
According to Box Office India, KGF – Chapter 2 is the 14th highest earner ever when you take into account how much was made on its opening day. Its full-day earnings are bigger than some big movies like PK, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Dhoom 3 and a few others but not nearly as high as Airlift or Kabir Singh.
Going forward, KGF – Chapter 2 will face little to no competition in theatres because it will be released much later than most other movies. However, it may suffer when Jersey releases late next week because of star power. Regardless, projections are still optimistic for the movie’s chances at breaking even over Rs.300 crores before the end of its second weekend opening since there won’t be as many options available come Saturday morning once Jersey comes out.
