One of the most talked about movies, KGF -Chapter 2 was released a little over a week ago. The movie enjoyed an enormous release across ten thousand different screens worldwide; doing so before one of the busiest times in Hollywood’s year occurs. Not only that but given the massive hype around it and how this movie got to have its screening time bumped up for 4 days made for an even more popular watch for viewers like me who were eager for all the updates to come in from this exciting experience! Now with just eleven days worth of hours within theaters according to sources, we’ve already seen KGF-Chapter 2 gross a total near half-a-billion dollars. And with what I heard from friends back home who’d gone there to see it first hand; I’ll tell you right now (without spoiling) but I knew it had been worth my money because everything about this sequel felt great:
Crossed ₹ 50 cr on Day 1: KGF 2 was just released, with moviegoers already getting tickets for the opening day of the release. It has already gained an eighty percent occupancy rate and raked in 53 crores from ticket sales on just the first day. This makes it one of India’s most highly anticipated films ever, dethroning Baahubali 2 -The Conclusion who had raked up 54 crores from its first-day earnings to become India’s most successful first-day earning film.
Crossed Rs. 100 cr on Day 2: Following up a large first-day collection, on Day 2 for KGF2 came an additional Rs. 46.79 crores. With a sum of Rs. 100 crores already collected from the movie’s opening weekend, KGF2 has become India’s all-time fasted film to cross the hundred crore mark with a total of Rs. 106 crore collected thus far.
Crossed Rs. 150 cr on Day 4: After achieving the record of being the fastest film to make Rs. 50 cr, and then again to make Rs. 100 cr at the box office, KGF2 succeeded in keeping its collections over Rs. 40 crores for four consecutive days – an honour only shared with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion so far. Whereas while both films achieved that feat on two separate occasions each, it would seem that despite having fewer days than Baahubali 2 at release; KGF2 managed to make Rs. 50 crores and even exceeded it one day before reaching 70 million views worldwide!
Crossed Rs. 200 cr on Day 5: Collecting R$219,560,000 (Dollars) within just 5 days of its release; KGF – Chapter 2 raced across the R$200 million (Reais) mark in record time. In fact, with its stellar performance, the film now ranks as the all-time fastest R$200 million grosser.
Crossed Rs. 225 cr on Day 6: A huge success, a long run in theatres and an unending frenzy that spread like wildfire through the movie-going audience – this is what KGF: Chapter 2 had to offer. With its humongous opening day and opening weekend collections, KGF2 managed to rake in close to Rs. 225 crores with the sixth day of its theatrical run bringing it closer to crossing Rs. 250 crore milestone.
Crossed Rs. 250 cr on Day 7: Following its speedy path into the Rs. 100 cr and Rs. 200 cr club, KGF 2 blew past the Rs. 250 cr mark in just 7 days with a Day 7 collection of Rs. 16.35 cr. Coming in at an astounding Rs 255.05 cr so far, this movie has seen one of the fastest growth rates for recent times; for it only took seven days for it to reach such heights!
Crossed Rs. 275 cr on Day 9: Despite witnessing a slight drop after nine days of being in theaters, KGF – Chapter 2 maintained its standing as one of the top grossers at the box office this year. The movie raked in an additional Rs. 13.58 crores and Rs. 11.56 crores on Days 8 and 9 respectively bringing up their total collection to Rs. 280.19 crore rupees (US $38 million).
Crossed Rs. 300 cr on Day 11: After a successful first week at the movies, KGF – Chapter 2 pulled in much more profit during its second weekend and has made an estimated $314 million. Proving that it was one of the top 10 highest grossing films ever, KGF – Chapter 2 can now stand next to Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion as one of only two movies to make over $300 million within just two weeks of release.
Currently, the film continues to impress with packed theatre seats from coast-to-coast. With expectations for it to see even greater success over the next week. In fact, KGF – Chapter 2 has already raked in Rs. $321 million (Rs. 321 crores) and will very likely top Dangal’s $387 million in box office sales after its second week (by the time this article was published).
