A Marathi Historical Film, Sher Shivraj directed by Digpal Lanjekar released last week. Despite being a regional language release, it did decently well at the box office. Released in only one state of India – Maharashtra – this film has been doing pretty well for itself considering it garnered Rs. 3 crores (3 million) so far and is distributed through multiple chains like PVR, Inox and Cinepolis.
It was hard to get this movie out nationally because there are no dubbed versions of it but now we see why movies with subtitles are great! Considering they’ve done pretty well already after just 1 week with such limited release – they’re aiming to hit another good run this weekend despite competition from newer films coming out. After collecting about 4 crores (40 million), you can tell that people have really taken an interest in these small-time films which makes us happy too since we share those interests!
