It was a dull Eid at the box office as Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 has failed to show significant growth on the big holiday. According to estimates, the film grew by about 20% from the opening day to put up a total in the range of Rs. 3.50 to 3.85 crores. This takes the 5 day total of Runway 34 to approx. Rs. 19 crores. This is a poor result for the film featuring Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan as the lifetime business will end in the range of Rs. 30 crore. To look at things, Runway 34 was never an Eid film as it catered to the multiplex audience. The treatment of this subject also took it away from a large section of audience. Ideally its a niche film and catered largely to the multiplex audience.
Although the movie stars gave hope to a better performance, alas! These figures are rather a disappointment. The holidays of Eid failed to do anything significant for Runway 34 and its numbers were below average. It’s almost as if people who come during Eid leave after they see Salman Khan films only – his other films such as Tubelight even had nineteen crore rupees earned on its fourth day i.e. the fourth day being on Eid when most people celebrate it which is far less than what was expected from it (may be due to its release date). But this years results for Runway 34, Heropanti 2 and KGF 2 has been below the expectations set by previous years’ performance during Eid where Salman Khan movies were watched.
