The much-hyped, expensive blockbuster Dhaakad debuted to disappointing numbers at the Box Office. The first day’s earnings had been estimated at nearly four crore Rupees ($6 million) but according to reports, it managed only about one point five crores Rupees ($2 million). It couldn’t break past a few thousand rupees through its first half-day in single theaters and failed even worse when it opened up for multiplex showings later on.
In other words, all of us who were rooting for this movie had to face reality when we saw how poorly it performed today; especially considering how hard all those talented people worked behind the scenes. Critics gave it bad ratings and there just wasn’t an audience interested enough to come see the film on its opening day. All I can say is that these numbers should be an eye opener for all of us in the industry who think we’re going places if we make large investments into big projects like these!
While the movie had all of these grand action sequences, it felt like a somber tone and you could tell there was nothing that would lure in an audience. This happens so often- that all these genres are so niche and people don’t want to see them because they’re just not entertaining enough. But really, what can be done about this? If we’re honest here, Action films work only when there is something good about them; you know, for example: comedy or romance maybe. There are certain cases where channels canceled shows or movies were postponed because people didn’t want to watch it anymore. It’s really unfortunate but reality tells us these things happen – cinemas will ask for Zee Network to let them out of showing the film because the theater wants to make room for other movies which do bring in an audience instead.
