More than nine crore rupees were earned at the box office on Monday for both Drishyam 2 and Bhediya combined. From the perspective of theater owners, these figures are quite acceptable because recent releases had been unable to generate this amount on Fridays – typically a day that generates large revenues. Though more would have liked to see even greater amounts coming in from Bhediya (it is also one of the largest releases), Drishyam 2 has compensated for some of those loses so far.
Let’s discuss Drishyam 2 first. This film did really well and has been running strong. In fact, when we look at it, the movie made its way up to Rs. 5.50 crores* on Monday without fail – which is quite remarkable considering its descent from previous day at Rs. 7.87 crores was reasonable since the Saturday performance had already exceeded expectations so much that it only makes sense for such a steady decline to happen eventually after all of that explosive growth in success over just one weekend alone! It looks like Drishyam 2 will reach Rs. 149.40 crores* before long and people are predicting that there will be an entry into the Rs .200 Crore Club soon!
As for Bhediya, the first major milestone is to score a half century and it should reach there inside 10 days. Of course, it would have been all the more comforting for all associated with the film had it happened inside the first week itself. After all, the film was appreciated and the reports from neutral audience are decent to good as well. However, there is a choice available in the form of Drishyam 2 as well and that’s dividing the audience. The impact was felt on Monday when Rs. 3.85 crores came in instead of Rs. 4 crores which leads me to believe people who wanted to see something different than ‘Bhidiya’ will be avoiding this movie because they’ll think ‘why watch this now? I’ll just wait till next Friday’. This being said, if you’re waiting around until Friday evening–the latest Bhidiya will cross Rs 5 crore mark by then- so don’t bother wasting your time now.’
