The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, has been on a roll ever since it was released. Initially being shown in only 600 theaters, the film had to expand because of audiences rushing to see this brilliant movie starring Anupam Kher. It’s only been thirteen days since the movie was first released and it’s already made $200 million worldwide!
Post the pandemic, there were limited releases. One of these was an Akshay Kumar movie Sooryavanshi – collectings Rs.196 crores according to recent reports. But now The Kashmir Files has surpassed these earnings coming in at Rs 197 crores plus plus becoming India’s first film after crisis to cross $200 million threshold. Moreover, it contributed to a rebound at local cinemas than many newly released movies could not provide after 7 months (some as long ago as early December).
As per latest figures from Bollywood Hungama Box Office (BHO), approximately 124 locations where shown out of 985 total for this release; whereas for other contenders such as Gangubai Kathiawadi(Rs 123 crores), 83 (Rs 109 crores) and Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1 (Rs 108 crores) were shown across fewer locations before release or lesser duration into their respective screenings.
