Despite being the traditional slow period, things are going well at the box office. Monday saw an overall collection of around Rs. 10 crores – a great sign considering footfall has remained consistent lately. A recent report indicated that theatres were generating between Rupees 15- 20 crores every day, due to two recent releases: The Kashmir Files and RRR (Hindi). These figures could not be matched on Monday but still coming in with Rupees 10 crore is better than we’ve seen in the past couple years during this time slot when it would take weeks for theaters to break even, let alone generate these kinds of numbers on Sunday.
The film that took the lead was RRR (Hindi). It did have a drop when compared to Friday’s collections of Rs. 13.50 crores* as only about Rs. 7 crore* came in; however, this is how the film stands and one hopes that it will stabilize today with at least Rs.7 crore coming in, so that its current collection can grow from Rs. 192 crore*. Attack – Part 1 showed an expected drop and just about Rs.*2 crore came in since it hadn’t grown much from its low number on Friday (Rs.*3.51 cr.) This isn’t very surprising for such a well-made movie which deserves more success than what it seems to be receiving locally; however, at the Indian box office, it currently stands at Rs.*13.51 cr.* and will probably settle down around the Rs.*20 cr mark.
Kashmir Files collected an additional Rs. 1 crore* on Monday, bringing its two week sum to Rs. 246.03 crores*. The collection is reasonable for a movie worth about 300 crores at one point, but when you’re expecting about 275 crores from the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film, the current tally is not too satisfying – even if Kashmir Files has already turned out to be an all-time box office success story.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
