A year and a half after the release of Master, Thalapathy Vijay is back on the big screen with Beast. His return has been met with overwhelming success – smashing all opening day records in Tamil Nadu to collect in the range of Rs. 34 to 36 crore (Gross). This movie starring him opened up bigger than even his last venture, Sarkar – which also featured him as its star actor.
Sarkar collected Rs. 32 crores in Tamil Nadu but this film went past that record four years later thanks to its leading man who was able to bring it out from the shadows once again with his performance. It remains unclear what exact number Beast will end up closing out at for its first day but one thing is for sure – this movie will go close or maybe even surpass its predecessor when it comes to collecting over Rs. 40 crores Gross!
Beast surpassed the first day records set by Valimai, the Ajith Kumar film which opened in Tamil Nadu last year with Rs. 28 crore rupees. With Beast, Thalapathy Vijay has proven himself to be worth much more than just an actor – he is now a true business force with almost no competitor when it comes to his position as number one star of Tamil Cinema today.
His rivalries come in second and third place respectively, but despite this strong standing in business there is still room for improvement when we consider that audiences rate Beast’s 2nd half poorly (with major criticism) while praising its 1st half. But only time will tell if Vijay can work his stardom magic and bring Beast past records set by Valimai- collecting over 135 crores rupees locally – even though conversations among audiences are less than satisfying; people don’t seem excited about it anymore after watching part two of this movie…
