Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui had a promising opening weekend after collecting Rs. 3.75 crore from the box office; with most of the audience coming from North India, especially from big cities there, such as Chandigarh and Delhi
Since the film deals with such a taboo subject, many people did not feel confident in buying tickets. Even so, we forecasted an opening weekend box office collection of around Rs. 4-5 crores. As it turns out, Delhi NCR also performed poorly at the theaters – which ultimately led to less ticket sales than anticipated.
To be frank, I was expecting this movie to be a lot better than it actually is with Vaani Kapoor giving an excellent performance in her pivotal role. Because of this, audiences are liking the film more now and will continue to do so throughout its theatrical run; at least until she leaves theaters for another project or two. With or without her though, Abhishek Kapoor’s movie might need over Rs. 20 crore gross box office collection just to stay afloat – which means that all hope isn’t lost yet!
