Yesterday, the sequel to a smashing hit called KGF – Chapter 2 opened nationwide. This movie debuted to over 10,000 screens in theaters worldwide and lead to quite an amazing opening with fans excitedly running out to buy tickets in droves. Despite predictions of success, the film made less than other blockbuster movies due to its comparative lack of powerhouses such as Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion and RRR. Despite making 138 crores at home, it ranked 3rd place when compared against other top films such as Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion which grossed over 190 crores on its first day. In terms of how well KGF – Chapter 2 performed overseas, it was estimated that it made around 25 million dollars domestically but most theater owners refused to release these numbers due to potential stigma from competitors.
Surprisingly, though the widespread release and heaps of advanced tickets sold for KGF 2 failed to reach any pre-existing box office records set by Baahubali 2 or RRR. Nevertheless, based off of the reactions from viewers across India who’ve seen it already – theatres around town are setting up special show times to satisfy ticket demand; some showing as early as 6 AM while others starting at midnight or 7 AM.
This in turn has caused a favorable reaction on social media that anticipates a successful run throughout its opening weekend. So too does Easter Weekend provide an extra boost of hope – when it comes to furthering the success of this film domestically with no other releases coming close to overshadowing it until May 3rd. Therefore, projections predict that KGF Chapter 2’s business will exceed Rs 120cr.
