Let us start this story with some good news. With multiple movies competing for awards, viewers are given many options to make decisions from when it comes to what they want see. The Kashmir Files is a grounded drama while Radhe Shyam offers fantasy. If Gangubai Kathiawadi is an all-too-realistic account of one woman’s life then Batman is just escapism fable. Because of this variety in viewing experiences, the number of people who go out and attend screenings has increased dramatically in recent weeks.
A new and mysterious video created curiosity among people worldwide. What made it all the more puzzling was the title: Kashmir Files. This led many experts to question whether or not it might mean something about a terrorist attack in Kashmir, but no one could confirm anything yet. With little public knowledge on what information can be gleaned from these two words, speculations were being made that the movie may never reach over Rs. 1 crore in terms of collection at first show itself, leaving audiences disappointed just like they were with director Vivek Agnihotri’s previous movie,Tashkent Files.
The Same cannot be said about Radhe Shyam which has struggled on the very first day of release. An expensive film, where in each frame one can see the $$$ being spent, courtesy its lavish production design as well as liberal use of VFX – the Prabhas and Pooja Hegde could not capture audience attention en route its release. Rest was taken care of after releasing reports*; because as a result the film could neither open, nor gain momentum over* other films – thus finishing at an abysmal Rs. 5.10 crore*.
Meanwhile Gangubai Kathiawadi is having an uninterrupted run as there is a regular stream of audiences that are continuously coming in. The Alia Bhatt starrer brought in Rs. 2.75 crores* on its third Friday too, which had propelled the numbers to Rs. 108.39 crores*. Now the film should comfortably get to Rs. 115 crores before close of weekend and then the journey towards 125 Crore milestone should be rather smooth. HIT
