Despite mixed reviews from critics, the Farhad Samji-directed Akshay Kumar starrer Bachchhan Paandey debuted on Friday across theaters in celebration of Holi. With rave reviews coming from audiences who attended screenings before its official release date – it’s likely that box office earnings will be promising for this new production by Nadiadwala Productions. In this theatre review, we compare current earnings to other films produced under Nadiadwala Productions.
Collecting Rs. 13.25 crores on Day 1, Bachchhan Paandey ranks as Sajid’s seventh highest all-time opening day grosser. Leading the list of Sajid’s highest opening day grossers are his previous films such as Salman Khan starrer Kick that collected Rs. 26.40 crores and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 2 that collected Rs. 25.10 crores; other films include Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4 (Rs 16.50 crores), Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 (Rs 16.10 crores), and Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 3 (Rs 15.21 crores) and Housefull 2 (Rs 14 crores).
Though Bachchan Pandre’s films may not outperform Raja Chaudhary films from past films, including Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s 2 States that has grossed Rs. 12.42cr., Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi which collected Rs. 11.94cr., John Abraham and Varun Dhawan’s Dishoom which grossed Rs. 11.05cr.; this doesn’t mean they won’t find good reception amongst people now or in the future – even if it all relies on how their current film fares at the box office this weekend, which for now looks very promising according to trade experts who state before even opening day, boxes were already full with sold out tickets to come during this weekend–also called Holi here–festival season.
