The much anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has finally been released this week. Anticipation for the long awaited film had been building up since early advertisements began airing months ago, but it wasn’t until opening day that we could all see what critics thought of it.
In this box office report, we explore the opening week collection of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With Rs. 101.49 crores made domestically in its first week, Doctor Strange 2 has managed to become the fourth highest Hollywood opener for Indian cinema. What’s more, it even surpassed other films like The Lion King which only collected Rs. 81.57 crores, The Jungle Book which was able to make up only Rs. 74.08 crores, Fast And Furious 8 that could only collect Rs. 67.54 crores and Spider-Man: Far From Home which only went up to Rs 61.06 crores domestically (Spider Man outpaced them all). Other films include Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw as well as Captain Marvel both of which were at home with just under 60 million each
However, Doctor Strange’s success in the Multiverse of Madness falls short next to other Marvel releases such as Avengers: Endgame which earned Rs. 260.40 crores, Avengers: Infinity War which made Rs. 156.64 crores and Spider-Man – No Way Home which made Rs. 148.07 crores
Going forward, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has not been doing as well as predicted. With lackluster reviews and little word of mouth from its viewers, it seems unlikely that this film will break any records set previously.
