As predicted, the release of Chhichhore had an excellent weekend and its success will show in Monday morning footfall numbers. The film collected approximately Rs 16.4 crores on Sunday, a huge improvement from Saturday’s collection of Rs 7.3 crores – an enormous achievement for Sajid Nadiadwala Productions who are known for producing high quality films.
And while there is some competition among Indian films at the multiplexes between Saaho (Hindi) and Mission Mangal, both films have been seen only sparingly; there is still no trace of foreign cinema anywhere near the popularity of Chhichhore which means that it enjoys unrivalled power over India’s urban junta.
The Sushant Singh, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma-starring film has earned over Rs. 35.98 crores so far and that’s quite impressive! It even beat Kedarnath (the movie), which had garnered just Rs. 27.75 crores in its opening weekend! The base may have been laid down, but the real test starts now – will it beat the Friday-Sunday earnings of Kedarnath?
The Karan Johar directed film was at Rs. 42.45 crores through the weekdays; if these numbers can’t be surpassed anytime soon then this one will stay true to the current trend where new releases don’t last beyond a month or two. The hope lies in delivering an engrossing story backed up with decent performances by actors who people know aren’t limited to playing their typecast roles over again – because otherwise what difference does this movie have from all those other mindless entertainers already plaguing screens today?
