Back in 2018-2019, Ayushmann Khurrana was on fire and released three consecutive hits – Badhaai Ho, Dream Girl and Bala. He also had success with Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan which came out in 2020. One of the few movies that took off at this time, it grossed well before COVID-19 hit theaters.
Now that theaters are back up, Chandigarh Kaare Aashiqui is the first feel-good movie to come out at theaters. Otherwise Sooryavanshi, Antim – The Final Truth, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Tadap have all boasted of heavy doses of drama but then this Abhishek Kapoor-directed film is meant to be light-hearted. Furthermore, Vaani Kapoor plays a role that has never before been acted out by a prominent actress on screen–especially in Bollywood! These factors make it special.
Had this been pre-pandemic times, the film could have easily begun with an opening in Rs. 8-10 crores range. But now it seems that it will need at least Rs. 4 or 5 crore for a sustainable start to build momentum until it hits its weekend grosses – whichever way you look at it, things seem very optimistic for Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui.
