This morning, Brahmastra- a movie directed by Ayan Mukerji starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt – opened at local theaters nationwide. Posters have been up all over town (you can see some displayed prominently near me right now) advertising this high budget yet highly anticipated film. Though many people are reporting that they are enjoying the visuals and appreciate what’s being done so far with the plotline, there still seems to be room for improvement in terms of dialogues or even dialogue length/quality. However, according to initial reports from trade analysts- after its first weekend release- it looks like this investment will turn out profitable despite these shortcomings.
Our release got off to an amazing start over the weekend! wrote Ayan in his Monday email, before continuing, This is just a grateful response from us to our audience. The appreciation they give us – that’s all we really care about when we make movies. And if there’s anything positive that came out of this first three day weekend, it was how well received Brahmāstra was by everyone who watched it.
Ayan concluded with optimism about what he felt was the future of both Brahmāstra and the Astraverse; concluding with hope for those yet to see it: We’re really happy because this movie creates such an awesome energy at theaters where people can come together again – outside the confines of their homes or offices – and share the experience together.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy. It is about ancient Indian astras and the mystery behind their existence. Cameos are made by Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in this sequel which is set to star only Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh (again).
