Two distinct films arrive this Friday – Rocketry – The Nambi Effect and Rashtra Kavach OM. Whereas the former is for the more sophisticated movie–goers, the latter appeals to a broader audience. Madhavan’s film has been eagerly anticipated for several years due to the amount of attention and effort given to every detail of the production, while Aditya Roy Kapur’s feature was filmed during the pandemic and has come out as a gripping cinematic actioner.
Let’s begin the discussion with The Nambi Effect, a film directed, produced, and starring Madhavan. Throughout the marketing and promotional period, the movie was widely discussed both abroad and in India. It was widely acclaimed by critics, and luckily enough, it found the attention of members in the Parliament. Also, it coincides with the fascinating life of Nambi Narayan, the film’s protagonist. So far, it has garnered plenty of positive reviews and is predicted to bring in an impressive weekend collection. It truly is remarkable how the real-life hero is constantly kept in the news headlines.
On the other hand Rashtra Kavach OM is a raw & stylised action drama which has an old school charm around ‘baap ka badla’ coming together with new age action theme and a Rambo feel to it as well. Aditya Roy Kapur had scored a decent success with his last theatrical arrival Malang which was an action affair as well and this time he seems to have gone even further ahead with this Ahmed Khan production where he has Sanjana Sanghi for company as the leading lady. With Jackie Shroff in a key role as well, the film has been put together as a true masala entertainer and should cater to the single screens.
Pre-pandemic, a release of Rs. 3-4 crores for each movie seemed feasible; however, the situation has changed now and Rs. 75 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore per movie appears to be a more suitable estimate. Fortunately, there are no major films coming out for these two movies, hence, if either or both of them end up being exciting, it could generate immense appreciation from their respective target audiences and help them sustain at the box office.
