The much–hyped Yash Raj Films production Shamshera, helmed by Karan Malhotra and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor, finally hit the theatres last week. Given the extensive promotional activities prior to the release and its anticipated release date, the film opened with a huge fanfare across 1200 screens in international markets. Sadly, it could not maintain the buzz, as both critics and moviegoers gave it a cold reception, resulting in a disastrous performance at the box office.
This box office report explores the performance of Shamshera in the international markets on its opening weekend and how it stacks up against other releases of 2022. By collecting USD 1.25 million, Shamshera is the fourth highest opening weekend grosser of the year. Although the business of the movie surpasses the collections of Bachchhan Paandey’s USD 1.04 million, it cannot compare to the stellar figures of Gangubai Kathiawadi, Jugjugg Jeeyo and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which earned USD 2.75 million, USD 2.2 million and USD 2 million respectively. These are the top three highest grossers of the year so far in the international markets.
At the present time, with practically no opposition, Shamshera remains running in theaters. Yet, considering the current pattern and the reception the movie has received, business forecasts foresee an unpromising future for its collections. As per predictions, the box office earnings of Shamshera may gradually climb, but not by much.
