Today marked the much anticipated release of the Yash Raj Films production Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. Following a slew of promotions and generating huge excitement, the movie was released across a massive 4,350 screens within India. After the huge buzz it created, expectations for a spectacular opening for Shamshera were understandably sky high.
Reports that have come in indicate that the movie has indeed made a satisfactory debut. With an occupancy rate estimated at 15% during the morning and early afternoon shows, this restrained turnout is attributed to the fact that Shamshera was released widely in 4,350 screens in the domestic market. Nonetheless, thanks to the film’s release pattern and large–scale promotion, its business is bound to see positive revenues. The advance booking for Shamshera has also been decent, even though the mass-oriented zones are yet to witness an upturn in bookings. On the contrary, multiplex-driven metropolitan cities have recorded a considerable rate of advance bookings.
Looking ahead, Shamshera, which has witnessed bookings lower than anticipated, requires the support of healthy walk-ins. The definitive outcome, however, will be revealed by the evening and night screenings, which are anticipated to have an augmented attendance. In keeping with the current trends, industry speculation indicates that the Ranbir Kapoor starrer will open with double digits on the first day. Moreover, the venture is projected to gain around Rs. 12-13 cr. on the inaugural day.
