The much anticipated and highly promoted Yash Raj Films project Shamshera hit cinemas last Friday. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role alongside Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor, the movie was expected to be a great success. However, surprisingly, Karan Malhotra’s directing did not bring a positive result and only earned Rs. 10.25 cr on its first day. After that, the movie’s business did not show much of a growth in its first weekend.
In this box office analysis, we explore the initial weekend collections of Shamshera in comparison to other Ranbir Kapoor releases. Shamshera gathered Rs. 31.75 cr, securing the position of Ranbir’s ninth–highest opening weekend grosser. However, it could not exceed the total collection of his earlier works. To name a few, Sanju’s Rs. 120.66 cr, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s Rs. 62.11 cr, Besharam’s Rs. 47.69 cr, Tamasha’s Rs. 38.23 cr, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s Rs. 35.60 cr, Jagga Jasoos’s Rs. 34.6 cr, Rajneeti’s Rs. 33.63 cr and Rockstar’s Rs. 33.60 cr collections remain far ahead of Shamshera. Despite the huge theater count and immense promotional activities, it failed to do so. But fortunately, it outperformed the revenue collected by Ranbir’s other movie Roy, that being Rs. 10.10 cr.
In the upcoming days, Shamshera is anticipated to have very little growth in its revenues. Trade speculations forecast that the business of this movie, which has been failing at the box office, is predicted to experience a continuous plunge in the forthcoming weekdays.
